Is it Safe to be a Raw Vegan?
Fully raw veganism is what some plant-based eaters opt for or aspire to become some day. The reason being is optimal health and wellness through overall dietary choices and sustainable habits. A raw vegan is even more concerned with fresh produce and ingredients at all times. The belief is that natural whole fruits and uncooked plant foods optimize energy and nutrient content compared to a cooked fruit or vegetable that has been mutilated and therby becomes a mutated version of the original fruit or plant in it's "raw" form. It is known consciously and subconsciously that nature already "cooks" our food. Ripened by the sun and watered by the rain most plant food is ready to eat before being overly processed by human hands or machines.
This is where a discrepancy comes to light among the plant-based community. Raw foodies claim that raw vegan fruits and veggies are a less complex way of eating for the human body. Some will even try to veganize naturally carnivorous animal pets. (Successfully and unsuccessfully I presume)... Also advocating that because animals can better digest raw crops that are normally factory processed and made into shelf food products for human consumption. Everywhere in nature the fruit crops and plants of the earth are consumed raw. But humans take nature and change it to something that is un-natural and hazardous to our bodies.
Essentially a raw vegan diet presents a diet of maximum simplicity. No added toxic ingredients that are foreign or artificially created in a lab. Just plain and simple fruit vegetables nuts and seeds. Those who do not aspire to become a fully raw plant- eater or a strict fruitarian will protest that you can enjoy veganism without committing to a raw diet. Simply avoid overly processed shelf foods and keep it simple wherever possible. Sauteeing, baking and frying vegetables is not allowed on a raw dietary system. It is said that the plants have a lot less nutrients this way which is why some opt for raw or uncooked fruits and veggies ONLY. This is not untrue, however prominent and successful dietary changes require a promising ability to fully commit to the rules of your new dietary system.
Yes there are still some absorbable nutrients in plants after using heat to break them down for your safe digestion. But why continue to cook if fresh raw fruit and veggie consumption is the healthiest way? Due to safety hazards and confusion as people commit to plant-based diets all are not able to consume a full spectrum of nutrients. Mostly you have to maintain a prepared budget and load up on more than you would have when you weren't plant-based and/or you were not a fully raw plant-powered food enthusiast.
So is it safe to become raw vegan? Absolutely. Contingent upon your preparedness, knowledge and research about your diet. You will be challenged with the task of fitting in enough calories via whole fruit and uncooked veggies only. No grains no cooked beans. Also note that this is the most expensive diet because you have to purchase so much more fruit to satisfy your nutritional needs. Whatever your grocery bill is for the month is probably what you will need to spend for each week. So you will most definitely triple or quadruple your meal plan pricing. If you find that you don't have a suited budget for eating as much fruit as your body truly craves on a strict raw vegan dietary system then it will be very difficult to meet nutritonal needs and may cause irrational and unsafe fasting methods. Ask how many calories you need for the day and if you should supplement with protein to meet daily nutrient requirements for your specific condition.
